CHICAGO — A shooting near a Chicago police station late Thursday night ended with officers detaining a man as he ran through the station’s parking lot, just moments after gunfire rang out nearby.

Victim Shot Steps From Police Station

Around 11:27 p.m. on June 19, an 18-year-old man was walking with friends along the 500 block of West Hobbie Street, just half a block from the Chicago Police Department’s 18th District station at 1160 North Larrabee Street, when someone opened fire.

The teen was struck in the back and arm. He was rushed to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was listed in good condition, according to police.

Suspect Detained After Fleeing Through CPD Lot

Immediately following the gunfire, officers stationed outside the CPD building spotted a man running through the parking lot. Police quickly detained him as a person of interest in the shooting.

Authorities have not confirmed whether the man is the shooter, but detectives are actively investigating.

Multiple Weapons and Drugs Recovered

Chicago police recovered a number of items from the area, including:

  • Several spent shell casings

  • A backpack containing suspected narcotics

  • A firearm near the shooting scene

  • An additional gun found across the street in the 1100 block of North Larrabee

These discoveries are being processed as part of the ongoing investigation.

So far in 2025, 12 people have been shot in the Near North Side — a slight increase from 11 shootings at this time last year.
