CHICAGO — A group of suburban young men enjoying a view of the Chicago skyline from a Logan Square rooftop were violently robbed Monday night — leading to the arrest of three adults and two juveniles, according to prosecutors and CWBChicago.
The victims, all from Des Plaines and aged 18–20, were standing on the roof of a parking garage in the 2300 block of West Logan when they were approached by another group already on the rooftop.
Confrontation Began With Gang Affiliation Question
According to court documents, a person from the second group asked the suburban men which gang they were affiliated with, escalating the situation. Moments later, the group crossed the garage roof and began robbing the victims.
One of the juvenile offenders allegedly pulled a knife and chased one man, who fled but lost his shoe and phone in the process. That same juvenile then stole another victim’s belt before joining in the robbery of a third man, who was allegedly robbed at knifepoint of his wallet, phone, and keys.
Victims Used Tracking App, Helped Locate Suspects
After the robbery, the group fled the scene. However, one victim used a phone-tracking app, which led them to a nearby bowling alley, where they spotted the same individuals in two separate vehicles in the parking lot.
They flagged down a police officer nearby, who detained all five suspects. Officers recovered several items during the search, including:
-
One victim’s shoe
-
Another’s belt
-
A pair of brass knuckles in a suspect’s car
Charges and Court Outcomes
Prosecutors charged Osvaldo Chaidez, 20, Jack Ognar, 18, Ryan Eggleston, 29, and the two juveniles with four counts of robbery each.
-
Chaidez allegedly punched one of the victims
-
Ognar was accused of filming the attack
-
Eggleston was found with brass knuckles in his car
All three adults appeared in bond court, where Judge James Murphy III denied detention but ordered each to electronic monitoring. Due to legal restrictions, case details for the juveniles were not released.
