STREAMWOOD, Ill. — A 24-year-old man accused of fatally stabbing his two sisters inside their suburban home appeared in court Friday as Cook County prosecutors revealed graphic new details of the May 28 double homicide.
Jalonie Jenkins has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of his 21-year-old sister, Janiya Jenkins, and 10-year-old sister, Eyani Jones. Both were found stabbed to death in their townhome on McKool Avenue in Streamwood.
Timeline Of The Attack
According to a court filing, the stabbings occurred around 6:40 p.m. on the second floor of the residence. Eyani had been video chatting via Snapchat with her best friend, a 10-year-old girl in another state, while playing a video game.
That friend later told investigators she heard:
-
Screaming
-
A young child asking their mother to get up
-
Janiya pleading, “Don’t kill the kids!”
The call then abruptly ended.
Moments later, the victims’ 7-year-old brother and the suspect entered the home and found blood trailing down the stairs. Upon reaching the second floor, the boy discovered Janiya covered in blood. She told him to take her 3-year-old daughter and leave immediately.
Chilling Moments Recalled By Child Witness
The 7-year-old told police that Jalonie called him a slur, pushed him down the stairs, and locked him and the toddler in a bathroom on the first floor.
While inside, the child said he heard:
-
Thudding sounds from upstairs
-
Eyani screaming, “Call 911!”
At 7:00 p.m., home security footage reportedly showed Jalonie leaving the house with multiple bags, placing them in a Lexus, retrieving the family dog, and driving away.
Ten minutes later, the 7-year-old exited the bathroom and discovered both of his sisters unresponsive and soaked in blood. He attempted CPR on one of them, dressed the 3-year-old, and ran to a neighbor’s house — the mother of Eyani’s Snapchat friend — to ask for help.
The neighbor entered the Jenkins residence, saw the crime scene, and immediately called 911 and the children’s mother.
Scene Evidence & Autopsy Results
Responding officers discovered both girls deceased. A bloody Blue Diamond kitchen knife was recovered, wedged between a dryer and wall on the first floor.
An autopsy determined:
-
Eyani was stabbed 10 times, including wounds to her neck, chest, and hands.
-
Janiya had been stabbed 12 times, primarily in the neck — one of which severed her trachea.
Their deaths were ruled homicides.
Tracking The Suspect
Following the murders, Jenkins was tracked via license plate readers to Redmond Park in Bensenville, where he tried to sell his car.
Prosecutors said:
-
He texted and spoke with his girlfriend, allegedly admitting to fighting with his sisters.
-
By 10:00 p.m., his phone went dark, likely powered off or destroyed.
Later that night, police located his car and executed a search warrant. Blood was found throughout the driver’s area, and clothing stained with Jenkins’ blood was found in a wooded section of the park.
On June 1, Jenkins was arrested in Downers Grove. Prosecutors said he confessed to stabbing both sisters.
Mental Health, Court Status & What’s Next
During Friday’s hearing, Jenkins’ attorney said he:
-
Has no prior criminal record
-
Is a father of two
-
Is undergoing treatment for psychosis
A mental health evaluation was requested. Jenkins is being held without bond and has been barred from contacting any witnesses, including family members.
His next court appearance is scheduled for June 26.
