TEXAS — A catastrophic flood swept through Central Texas over the Fourth of July holiday, killing more than 40 people and leaving entire communities devastated. As rescue teams continue to recover bodies and search for the missing, a large-scale relief effort has begun, led by community groups, nonprofit organizations, and volunteers across the region.
Widespread Damage Across the Hill Country
The worst of the flooding struck Kerr County and surrounding areas, including the towns of Hunt, Ingram, Kerrville, Center Point, and Comfort. Search and recovery crews are still combing the area for missing persons, while shelters and aid stations are at full capacity supporting displaced families.
As reported by Click2Houston, American Furniture Warehouse in Katy (500 Pin Oak Rd) is collecting donations through July 10. Texas Search and Rescue is also actively working in flood zones and in need of funding to continue their mission.
Local Heroes and Celebrities Join the Effort
Musical artist Trae Tha Truth and his team at Relief Gang are coordinating multiple 18-wheeler convoys of food, water, and supplies for flood-affected areas. The group has asked families in need to contact them directly via Instagram.
Meanwhile, Typhoon Texas, a waterpark based in Katy, is offering free admission tickets in exchange for donations of hygiene products, diapers, or gently used clothing — a creative move that combines entertainment with support for struggling families.
Nonprofits Step In: Food, Shelter, and Animal Rescue
The Kerr County Flood Relief Fund, in collaboration with the American Red Cross and The Salvation Army, is providing temporary housing and distributing basic supplies to impacted residents.
The Salvation Army Kroc Center in Kerrville has become a central hub for volunteers and donation collection, focusing especially on nonperishable food and hygiene products.
For pet owners, Austin Pets Alive! is leading efforts to rescue and shelter animals separated during the floods. The group is urgently asking for fosters and donations through its official website.
Additionally, the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country has launched a dedicated flood relief fund to assist with immediate response and long-term rebuilding. According to KUT.org, the fund will specifically support the most heavily impacted communities, ensuring aid is distributed through trusted local partners.
