Illinois State Police responded to the scene of the three-vehicle collision, confirming that two individuals were pronounced dead at the site. Their identities have not yet been made public as authorities notify next of kin.

Northbound lanes of I-55 were completely closed, with traffic being diverted at I-355 to allow for investigative work. Additionally, the ramps from I-355 to I-55 northbound were also blocked off.

Authorities have not released information about road or weather conditions at the time, and it’s unclear whether impairment or speed were factors in the incident.

Ongoing Investigation And Traffic Impact

The Illinois State Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision and are urging any witnesses to come forward with information.

The crash created a significant traffic bottleneck for Sunday commuters, with northbound lanes remaining closed for hours. Officials advised drivers to take alternate routes as forensic teams conducted on-site analysis.
