CHICAGO — A man was discovered critically injured in an alley in the Edgewater neighborhood Thursday night, after neighbors reported a violent outburst followed by the sound of a motorcycle fleeing the scene.
According to Chicago police, the incident unfolded around 10 p.m. in the 5800 block of North Kenmore Avenue, where a 911 caller reported hearing someone shout, “I’m going to kill you,” just before a motorcycle was heard speeding away.
Victim Found With Blunt Force Trauma To Head
Shortly after the initial 911 call, a passerby stumbled upon the injured man and, fearing he had been shot, called for emergency assistance. However, responding EMS personnel determined the man had not been shot, but suffered severe blunt force trauma to the head, suggesting he had been beaten with a heavy object.
The unidentified man was transported to St. Francis Hospital in critical condition. As of Friday morning, police said the victim had no identification on him and remained unidentified.
No Arrests, Investigation Ongoing
Authorities have not released any suspect description, and no arrests have been made in connection to the incident. The possibility of a motorcycle being involved—either as a getaway vehicle or belonging to the attacker—is currently part of the ongoing investigation.
Edgewater Residents Concerned
Edgewater residents, already on edge after a string of recent disturbances in the area, expressed concern following the latest violent act.
“It’s terrifying to think something like this happened right behind our homes,” one neighbor said. “We heard the scream and the engine, but had no idea someone’s life might be hanging in the balance.”
Police are urging anyone with surveillance footage or information from the area around 10 p.m. Thursday to come forward.
