United Airlines Expands Fall Flights from Chicago to Sunny Getaways

As Chicago gears up for cooler months, United Airlines is helping locals escape the chill. The carrier announced Friday that it will expand its fall flight schedule from O’Hare International Airport, launching new service and increasing capacity to dozens of warm-weather destinations across the U.S., Latin America, and the Caribbean.

United is calling it its busiest fall ever out of Chicago, with 592 daily flights scheduled for October, surpassing even its summer schedule.

Where United Is Headed

The expanded fall routes will include boosted service to:

  • Phoenix, AZ

  • Austin, TX

  • Orlando, FL

According to United, there will be 10% more seats to Florida than during the same period last year.

Internationally, the airline is expanding and extending service to:

  • Liberia, Costa Rica

  • Cozumel, Mexico

  • St. Martin

  • Guatemala City, Guatemala

  • Punta Cana, Dominican Republic

  • San José del Cabo, Mexico

Breaking Records at O’Hare

United said the growth comes on the heels of a record-breaking summer, with the airline expecting to fly a peak of 71,000 seats per day in July from O’Hare—marking its busiest period at the airport in over 20 years.

This expansion cements United’s ongoing commitment to the Chicago market, where it remains the dominant airline.

Investments in Passenger Experience

This year, United has also:

  • Renovated its Polaris Lounge at O’Hare (now 50% larger with more dining and relaxation space)

  • Launched its first Starlink-equipped aircraft offering gate-to-gate high-speed internet and expanded inflight entertainment options

The airline also noted its local job growth, hiring more than 2,000 new employees this year, bringing the total to over 18,000 in the Chicago area. United expects to hire another 5,400 employees by 2027.
