CHICAGO — A violent robbery crew is being sought by Chicago police after five armed robberies unfolded over just two days, spanning neighborhoods from the West Loop to Wicker Park and the United Center area.
Authorities say the suspects — described as three masked men traveling in a gray Infiniti Q50 — began their spree early Thursday morning, July 3, and struck again multiple times on Friday, July 4.
Pattern of Early-Morning Armed Robberies
The first robbery occurred around 7 a.m. Thursday in the 1400 block of West Carroll Avenue. Police say a woman was pistol-whipped twice and robbed of her bag and phone by three masked men who jumped from a sedan and fled in the vehicle.
Just three hours later, at 10:12 a.m., two more victims were targeted inside a parking garage at Rush University Medical Center in the 1500 block of West Harrison Street. The suspects — again dressed in black and armed — made off with a Coach bag and maroon backpack, escaping in the same car.
Surveillance footage helped investigators identify the suspects’ vehicle as a gray Infiniti Q50 with a broken sunroof and stolen license plates, which had already been connected to previous robberies in the area, according to a source cited by CWB Chicago.
Robbery Spree Continued on July 4th
On Friday, the crew escalated their activity, striking three more times in just over an hour:
-
7:15 a.m. at 2317 W. Madison St.: A man was robbed of his wallet and $800 in cash outside a Chase Bank by two masked, armed men. A third suspect was also involved.
-
7:45 a.m. in the 1100 block of W. Carroll Ave.: Another victim was robbed at gunpoint by three men, two of whom were armed. The suspects fled in a gray sedan, similar to the one used the previous day.
-
8:15 a.m. near Division and Paulina (Wicker Park): Two masked men attempted to rob a woman at gunpoint but fled without taking anything.
Although the suspects changed license plates between Thursday and Friday, investigators believe it was the same vehicle involved throughout.
Police Link Attacks to Prior Robbery Pattern
The Chicago Police Department recently issued a community alert regarding a pattern of violent armed robberies by a similar group operating in West Town and nearby neighborhoods. Those alerts described:
-
Three Black male suspects
-
Ages 20–30
-
Heights between 6’0” and 6’2”
-
Wearing black ski masks and hooded sweatshirts
In several past incidents, victims have been pistol-whipped, echoing Thursday’s assault.
Residents Urged to Stay Alert
The recent attacks have heightened concerns across West Loop and Wicker Park, neighborhoods that have seen a spike in street-level crimes over the past few months. Police continue to investigate and have urged anyone with surveillance footage or information to come forward.
The getaway car, a gray Infiniti Q50 with a broken sunroof, remains a key piece of the investigation.
