STREAMWOOD — A fatal three-vehicle crash occurred Saturday afternoon at the intersection of Schaumburg Road and Timber Trail, claiming the life of 42-year-old Laura Huerta, a Streamwood resident.
Emergency responders were dispatched at 3:17 p.m. following multiple calls about the crash. Streamwood Police, Fire Department, and paramedics all arrived swiftly to find significant damage and one person trapped inside a vehicle.
Victim Identified and Transported to Hospital
First responders located Huerta in a 2008 Toyota, which had sustained heavy front-end damage. Firefighters extricated her from the vehicle and transported her to St. Alexius Medical Center, where she was later pronounced dead at 4:50 p.m.
Huerta had been attempting to make a left turn from Timber Trail onto Schaumburg Road when her vehicle was struck by an eastbound 2007 BMW.
Scene Investigation and Road Conditions
The area is known for busy traffic. Schaumburg Road has a speed limit of 40 mph with two lanes in each direction, while Timber Trail is a residential street with a stop sign and a 25 mph limit.
As reported by Cardinal News, the impact occurred on the driver’s side of the Toyota, which suggests the BMW had the right of way during the incident.
Police Closure and Forensic Investigation
The intersection was immediately shut down to allow for a full investigation by both Streamwood Police and the Major Case Assistance Team Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction (MCAT-STAR). Officers were seen using forensic mapping tools and interviewing bystanders.
A male passenger in another vehicle involved was checked by paramedics but did not require hospitalization. No additional serious injuries were reported.
