BOLINGBROOK — A 21-year-old woman from Morris tragically died early Monday morning in a two-vehicle crash on the Stevenson Expressway (I-55) near Illinois Route 53, according to law enforcement and media reports.
The woman was a passenger in a green Subaru Forester that collided with another vehicle around 3:20 a.m., just outside Bolingbrook. She was transported to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead, per Chicago Sun-Times.
Crash Shut Down Southbound I-55 for Hours
The collision caused the right lane of southbound I-55 to be closed for several hours while authorities conducted an initial investigation.
The driver of the Subaru was reportedly unharmed.
Illinois State Police Leading Investigation
Officials have not yet disclosed the cause of the collision, and the Illinois State Police have released no further information about contributing factors. A full investigation remains underway.
The victim’s identity had not been publicly released as of Monday evening. Her death has sent shockwaves through her hometown of Morris, a tight-knit community southwest of Chicago.
